Safety and Maintenance Tips
Safety and maintenance are two big concerns in the material handling industry. Each week you will find new information here to help keep your warehouse running smoothly.
How To Work Safely in Hot Weather
Summer is right around the corner. That means the weather is about to get HOT! Here in the South temperatures during the summer are consistently in the 90’s with high humidity. We often use the term “heat stroke” jokingly, but it is a real danger. Heat stroke can be fatal! We need to be on the lookout for symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke in our coworkers. Often times the person experiencing these sytems does not even realize anything is seriously wrong. Symptoms include: strange and uncharacteristic behavior, muscle cramps, exhaustion, muscle fatigue, red face and heavy breathing without perspiration, etc. If you notice these symptoms in yourself or a coworker please get them to a cool, safe place immediately! They may require further medical assistance. Hydration is very important for working in the summer. Make sure to drink plenty of hydrating fluids, such as water. Other beverages, such as alcohol and soda, can have a reverse effect and actually cause a person to become more dehydrated. Take breaks periodically to get out of the heat and direct sunlight. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you suspect heat stress. Please work safely!
